New Goal for Disabled Supporters

 Wheelchair Charit Run

10/05/2007

Bury supporters with disabilities can look forward to continuing to follow their heroes around the country, thanks to the efforts of a voluntary fan club.

Last month saw another great success for Bury FC Disabled Supporters Club when Stan McGowen, the club's chairman and founder member Paul McGowen completed the Southport four mile run.

Stan pushed his son Paul, who suffers from cerebral palsy, in his wheelchair and completed the run in just 55 minutes, with other members of their group also completing the course in good time.

Minibus Appeal

The group took part in the run to raise money for their new minibus appeal, to replace the club's much-used wheelchair accessible minibus.  Paul previously raised £10,000 to buy a bus for the club, which was founded in 1993, but now it requires replacement.

Among those supporting the fund-raising effort were accessible transport specialists Allied Vehicles, who sponsored Paul and Stan in the race.

Bury F.C Disabled Supporters Club raises income through race and quiz nights, abseils and fun runs.  Other contributors include the local Rotary Club and Bury Lions.

Fan of the Year

Earlier this year Paul's hard work for the club was recognised when he was presented with the Fan of the Year award, sponsored by FIFA 07, at the Football League awards dinner in the Grovesnor House Hotel, London.
