Allied Mobility, the UK’s leading supplier of wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs), attended the popular Mobility Roadshow this year to show off their accessible transport range.
Around 9,000 disabled and older people flocked to this year’s show at Kemble Airfield, near Cirencester, with visitors registering from across the United Kingdom, Europe and as far air field as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Accessible Options
Allied Mobility, the leading supplier of wheelchair accessible vehicles to the Motability Scheme, joined forces with Alfred Bekker Ltd at the show to display a range of wheelchair accessible cars and MPVs, as well as a selection of hand controls and steering aids.
On display from Allied were the wheelchair accessible Peugeot Horizon and Peugeot Independence Premier. Designed to provide optimum accessibility and safety for the wheelchair passenger, both WAVs are fully equipped with lightweight folding rear ramp, high quality wheelchair restraints and lowered floor. As with all vehicles in Allied’s range, both are available to buy, rent or through Motability.
The Big Day
Paralympian gold medallist Danny Crates opened the show and got the event off to a great start. Other special guests over the three days included TV presenter Ade Adepitan, tennis gold medallist Peter Norfolk, Paralympian Tanni Grey-Thompson and celebrity swimmer Sharron Davies.
There was plenty to keep visitors entertained such as short, interactive seminar sessions that ran throughout the event. These touched upon a range of subjects from choosing a car and assessing what you need in the way of adaptations to air passengers’ rights and accessible holidays and travel - all designed to inspire, advise and inform.
Competitions also ran throughout the show, such as the 'Ready Willing & Mobile' competition that seeks bright ideas from school children to help disabled young people to become more independent. Sharron Davies presented prizes to the winners of the competition.
Getting Active
The event was a great day out for all. For entertainmenbt there were trial flights with disabled pilots, adapted go-karts, skid car and 4x4 off-road rides and an accessible climbing wall. In the sports arena visitors joined wheelchair basketball, rugby, tag rugby league, and dancing and gained wheelchair tennis tips from experts.
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Rentals
Allied's new WAV rental service attracted great interest at the show. Grant Orton, Allied Mobility's accessible rentals manager, commented: “The event was a brilliant success and provided visitors with vast amounts of info on disabled products and services. We had great crowds around our stand over all three days and we received a fantastic response to our wheelchair accessible Peugeot Horizon and Peugeot Independence.
"It is very encouraging to learn that the option to hire a wheelchair accessible vehicle, whether for a couple of days or a longer period, can help make a real difference for many wheelchair users and their families and friends."
