Disability Awareness Day 2009

08/10/2009

Allied Mobility was delighted to support the Northwest Disability Awareness Day (DAD), organised by Warrington Disability Partnership, for a third year running.

The event, held at Walton Hall Gardens in Warrington, is now in its 18th year.  The 2009 Disability Awareness Day attracted over 27,000 visitors and over 280 exhibitors from across the UK and Europe, with some coming from as far away as Cyprus to attend.

On Show

Allied Mobility, the UK’s leading supplier of wheelchair accessible cars, MPV and minibuses were showing off their Peugeot Horizon Origin.  The Horizon, which has the lowest WAV advance payment on the Motability Scheme, is fully wheelchair accessible with lowered floor, wheelchair ramp and electric winch system. As with all the vehicles in Allied’s range, the Horizon is available to buy, rent or through Motability.

The Big Day

DAD09 was the finale of a week consisting of 12 different events that attracted thousands of visitors. Special guests included Minister for Disabled People Jonathan Shaw, who praised the show and its organisers saying: “DAD typifies the strength, tenacity and flexibility of the voluntary sector.”

Visitors were provided with a vast amount of information from a range of disability product and service providers, as well as being entertained in the performing arts marquee, sports area, cinema and at the funfair.  Over 230 charities also exhibited at the event, providing vital information to visitors on physical, mental, sensory and learning impairment.

The event is positioned as Europe’s largest voluntary-led disability exhibition and the event organisers received royal recognition when they were presented with a Queens Award for Voluntary Services in 2006.

John Davis, one of Allied’s Mobility Consultants, commented: “We had great fun doing the event this year and saw a lot of smiling faces. We’re happy to support a brilliant charity like Warrington Disability Partnership and I’m sure the event will be going strong for years to come.”
