Staff from leading wheelchair vehicle manufacturer Allied Mobility got together for a fun filled fundraising day in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Big Build Appeal.
Allied supports a number of selected charities and was delighted to get involved in helping a Marie Curie special project.
The Glasgow Big Build Appeal, sponsored by Smooth Radio, is an ambitious undertaking, designed to raise £16.1 million to build a new hospice in Glasgow. On completion, it will offer state-of-the-art care and improve patient care, comfort and privacy.
Food and Fund-raising
Allied encouraged it's staff to dress down for a £1, which was a great way to raise some fast cash! But the money maker that really got staff licking their lips was a bring and buy home baking stall.
Many of Allied’s staff brought a selection of treats to be sold on the day. They included cream filled empire biscuits, chocolate cakes, rocky road and fruit loaf. The anticipation was too much for some, whose eyes were firmly fixed on the stall until the bell rang to signal its opening.
Sales executive Wes Irving commented: “The feast of baking donated was unbelievable! Everyone put in a big effort to raise as much money for Marie Curie. Unfortunately my eyes were too big for my belly and I ended up with a sore tummy from all the sweet delights!”
Staff from Allied’s Marketing Department were kept busy manning the stall and serving colleagues throughout the company.
Sing-a-long with Smooth
Smooth Radio visited Allied at the end of their fundraising frenzy to talk about the day and how much had been raised. To top the day, Allied decided to give Smooth Radio and their listeners a treat by gathering together for an on-air sing-a-long!
Allied Marketing Manager, Natalie McClure, explained: “I was interviewed by Smooth presenter Emma, but I wanted to make sure that everyone had a chance to be heard on air. A group of staff from departments all round the company came together to sing Hey Baby and it was a great way to round off our day.”
The End Result
From all their efforts Allied managed to raise over £200 and Allied chairman, Gerry Facenna, kindly offered to match anything the staff raised on the day, bringing the total to over £400.
Head of Presentation for Smooth Radio, Gerry Burke said: “I really want to thank Allied Vehicles and its staff for all their efforts on Smooth Radio’s ‘Big Wednesday.’ Without companies like Allied taking part and doing their bit in fundraising, Big Wednesday wouldn’t have been the huge success that it was.”
All money raised will go directly to Marie Curie’s Big Build Appeal.
