Peugeot Horizon disability car at the Kidz Up North Show, in Bolton

Kidz Up North

22/01/2010

For the ninth year running, Disability Living hosted their ever popular Kidz Up North Show at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.

The free entry showcase for mobility products and services is dedicated to children with special needs, their families and health and social care professionals who work with them. With many specialised companies and professionals attending the event, the exhibition provided an opportunity to learn about special equipment, products and services available to help improve the quality of life and independence of disabled children.

FlexiFold™ Wheelchair Ramp

Allied Mobility was delighted to attend the event, displaying the new model wheelchair accessible Peugeot Horizon.  Accessibility couldn’t be easier with the Horizon, which features the new FlexiFold™ ramp with a low ramp gradient to assist wheelchair entry and exit.  The new FlexiFold™ ramp folds flat to the vehicle floor, when the wheelchair passenger space is not in use, creating a neat and tidy finish with a large luggage compartment.

The Horizon is available to buy, rent or through the Motability Scheme.  At only £395 Advance Payment on the scheme, the Horizon comes complete with electric windows, CD player and original Peugeot middle row seating.  This means that - unlike some converted disability cars - the Horizon offers the full five passenger seats, when the wheelchair position is not in use and a rear passenger seat alongside the wheelchair occupant when they are using the car.

Horizon Proves a Hit

The Horizon wheelchair accessible car is an ideal option for able-bodied and wheelchair passengers alike.  Proving a definite hit on the day, the Peugeot Horizon caught the attention of many of the show’s visitors and Allied received great feedback on it’s space and comfort from families and kids who enjoyed trying the car out for size themselves.

One visitor, Samantha Copeland said: “Allied’s new Horizon is a really stylish vehicle and very roomy. The new ramp looks great and it’s so versatile and excellent for busy family life.”

Fun Packed Day

The day was filled with entertainment such as indoor donkey rides and a football competition with surprise celebrity guests from the Bolton Wanderers football team.

Allied provided their own entertainment on their stand where Wendie Williams kept the kids laughing and smiling with her amazing balloon creations including monkeys, teddies, swords and her popular favourite, colourful flowers.

Prize Draw

Allied also held a prize draw on the day offering, visitors a chance to win a satellite navigation system worth £150. The lucky winner was Peter Ryan, from Oldham.

Peter exclaimed: “I never thought I would win, it’s excellent!  The sat nav will really come in handy.  I've been to the Kidz Up North show twice now and find it really helpful because there are so many things on display from communication tools to accessibility products.”

This year, Kidz Up North was once again a great success with even more exhibitors and visitors filling the hall.

Peter Duncan, mobility consultant with Allied, commented: “The show is a brilliant day out.  There’s so much information to pick up, which is an excellent help for parents and the kids have fun too.”

“We had the Peugeot Horizon wheelchair car on display and lots of families had the chance to see our vehicle first hand and commented on its excellent size and comfort.  We always enjoy the show and this year was no different - the day was a great success,” continued Peter.
