Eileen Whitaker with her new wheelchair car from Allied Mobility

Wheelchair Car is a “Godsend”

21/01/2010

Eileen Whitaker, a wheelchair user from Guisborough near Middleborough, is enjoying being able to get out and about again, when it suits her.  The difference?  Her new wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) from Allied Mobility.

The Perfect Solution

Eileen and her husband Raymond had a standard car for many years but increasingly found the vehicle no longer suited their accessibility needs.  For the past two years Eileen has been unable to travel in their standard car, which understandably proved a real struggle for the couple.

Searching for a wheelchair accessible car that would allow Eileen to travel seated in her wheelchair their daughter, Catherine, came across Allied Mobility and found the perfect solution in the Peugeot Horizon Origin.

Raymond contacted Allied Mobility and arranged a free home demonstration and it wasn’t long before the couple got to see the wheelchair car first hand and try it out for themselves.

Raymond recalls: “Neil from Allied came out to demonstrate the Horizon to us.  He explained the different features and showed us how to use the ramp and electric winch.  Seeing the car and using it ourselves was great.  Straight away we knew it was definitely the car for us.”

The Peugeot Horizon disability car from Allied Mobility is specially adapted for wheelchair access. With features such as the lightweight one-piece folding rear ramp and the electric winch, the Horizon offers great accessibility for all wheelchair users.

Versatility

The couple are both now enjoying the new flexibility provided by having their own wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Raymond comments: “Eileen often travels with her electric scooter and drives up the ramp with no problem at all.  When we go for hospital appointments, Eileen likes to travel in her standard wheelchair so we use the electric winch on these occasions. The winch is smashing; it’s really easy to use.”

The accessible Horizon Origin provides complete security for wheelchair passengers with a full lap and diagonal seat belt and high quality, four-point wheelchair restraint system.

“Eileen enjoys getting out and about in our new car and it's great to know  that she always feels secure when travelling,” Raymond explains.  “The safety the Horizon provides also gives me great peace of mind.”

Driving the Peugeot Horizon is no different to other cars, Raymond explains: “My daughter Catherine and I both drive the car.  We both find it a very comfortable and it’s just like driving any other car.”

Taking Trips

Eileen and Raymond have been enjoying getting out and about in their new WAV. “We’ve been taking trips to the seaside and going to garden centres to pick up plants and flowers," says Raymond.  "Eileen loves to have lots of colourful flowers in the garden.”

Eileen has also been able to enjoy trips with her daughter.

“Catherine picks up Eileen every Saturday and they spend the whole day shopping", adds Raymond.  Now that we have the new car, Catherine has been able to take Eileen to lovely boutiques that are that little bit further away.”

A Champion Service

Raymond and Eileen are delighted with the service they received from Allied Mobility. “The service was champion!” Raymond proclaims. “During the demonstration, Neil showed us how to use everything. He also gave us information on the Horizon and answered all the questions we had. He was very helpful.”

“Once we placed our order we received our new car in just a few weeks, we couldn’t believe it!  I would definitely recommend Allied Mobility to anyone looking for a wheelchair accessible car.  Eileen and I couldn’t be happier with our new Horizon. It’s really been a Godsend.”
