When Des and Maria Foad, from Southampton, needed to find a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) they turned to the UK’s leading provider, Allied Mobility.
Mr Foad explains: “My wife has used a wheelchair for around five years now and she used to just transfer into our old car. Recently she spent some time in hospital and when she came out we needed to be able to transport her wheelchair with us.
With a short time limit to find their first wheelchair accessible car, the couple were keen to find a company that could offer suitable wheelchair cars plus efficient service and helpful staff.
Des recalls: “We spoke to a few different companies but it soon became clear Allied stood out from the rest when it comes to WAVs.”
“We wanted to get a wheelchair car quite quickly as, with my wife having reduced mobility, it was limiting how often we could go out. We explained our situation to Allied and the kind of car we’re looking for. Their Peugeot Horizon seemed ideal for us so we asked for a home demonstration.
“It just so happened our local Allied Mobility consultant, Paul, lived in Southampton so he came and did the demo the same day we called. We couldn’t believe how quickly he was able to come out – Allied really made the extra effort to accommodate us.”
Based on the Peugeot Partner, Horizon is the most popular wheelchair accessible vehicle on the Motability Scheme. This cleverly designed car comes complete with a unique FlatFold™ ramp, full wheelchair restraint system and lowered floor for a low ramp gradient.
When you order your disabled vehicle from Allied Mobility you can expect more as Horizon also offers full original Peugeot seating, reverse parking sensors and an electric winch system where required. All of these added value features come at no added cost on the Motability Scheme.
Des continues: “The demonstration was great! We were surprised how quick and easy it was to put Maria’s wheelchair into the Horizon. I could operate the ramp and wheelchair restraints without any trouble and it was quicker than when Maria used to transfer into our old car.
“We spend our days visiting garden centres, having lunch by the seaside at Portsmouth docks or visiting our five children and their families. I was a keen rower when I was younger and I now officiate at events, where Maria comes and watches so the car plays a big part in our lives.
Mr Foad continues: “My passion for rowing clearly rubbed off on the family as our grandson,James Foad, rowed in the 2012 London Olympics Men’s Eight and won a bronze medal – we’re very proud of him!
Over all we were really impressed with both the car and the level of service we received. Allied couldn’t have done any more to help us find the right car. We couldn’t be more satisfied!
