Kitty Yazdian-Tehrani, from Norfolk, is one of the newest members of the Allied Mobility family having only just taken delivery of her first wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV). We were very humbled that Kitty and her parents, Majid and Helen, invited us into their home for the day to give us an insight into their lives. Be sure to watch the video below as the family tell us what their new WAV means to them.
New to Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles
In 2018, Kitty suddenly became seriously ill and was hospitalised. Mum Helen says: “She was an active, healthy 18-year-old and she became severely disabled.”
“When I started on the journey of finding a company, Allied Mobility were really gentle and pleasant to deal with, really human.”
For four months after leaving hospital, Kitty was unable to leave the house as the family had “no ability to get transport”. Majid and Helen started to have a look around for a mobility car that would suit their family size and Kitty’s needs.
Majid tells us: “When I started on the journey of finding a company, Allied Mobility were really gentle and pleasant to deal with, really human.”
He admits at the beginning he “didn’t know what a WAV was” but after chatting with our mobility advisors over the phone, he eventually found the Ford Tourneo Custom Independence™ was the right fit.
To ensure you’ve chosen the right wheelchair accessible vehicle for your needs, our mobility consultants carry out a free home demonstration. They’re there to show you how everything works and support you with any questions you have.
Majid explains: “One of the representatives came with a WAV and we test drove that. And it wasn’t a hard sell.”
The family opted for the Independence™ as its generous seating layout ensures the whole family can get out and about together. The three, along with Kitty’s sister Verity and carer Becky, love nothing more than going on trips, near and far.
“We saw it and we fell in love with it. It’s just perfect.”
Helen expresses: “It’s really important for Kitty, being young, to be out in public to help her come to terms with her disability. It’s important to be out and not trapped in the house.”
Love at First Sight
Despite having the option to see a variety of wheelchair accessible cars, the family knew the Independence™ was right for them straight away.
Majid quips: “We saw it and we fell in love with it. It’s just perfect.” Helen agrees: “It’s gone beyond our expectations.”
Allied Mobility would like to say a massive thanks to the Yazdian-Tehrani family for welcoming us to their home with open arms. Check out the family’s video below.
