Vehicles for people traveling in their wheelchair are ever changing – and 2019 is set to see one of the biggest and most exciting changes in many years. Here managing director Peter Facenna helps preview how Europe’s best selling wheelchair accessible vehicle is undergoing a head-to-toe transformation.
Top-Selling Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle
For almost a decade now, the Peugeot Partner Horizon, from Allied Mobility, has been far and away Europe’s best selling wheelchair accessible car. In fact Allied, with its specialist distribution partners, has now sold a staggering eight thousand of these spacious and practical wheelchair accessible vehicles.
Allied Mobility’s managing director, Peter Facenna, commented: “It’s really quite amazing to think that there’s so many people, families and companies out there driving our Horizon wheelchair access conversions.
“Of course it’s hugely rewarding to know that every day, literally thousands or wheelchair users are able to get out and about more thanks to having their own wheelchair accessible vehicle.”
All things must change, of course and Allied Mobility is now working closely with PSA Peugeot-Citroen to create the next generation of the record-breaking wheelchair accessible vehicle.
Peter continues: “With so many wheelchair users out there using this wheelchair car conversion, in so many different circumstances and indeed countries, our engineering design team has a wealth of practical, user-experience to draw on when it comes to developing an even better Horizon to take us into 2019 and beyond.
“This key project has been our top engineering priority over the past year and everyone at Allied Mobility is super excited that we’re nearly ready to launch the next phase of the Horizon story.”
New Horizon Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles
When it came to planning this major transformation, Allied Mobility has been very fortunate in being able to work hand-in-hand with top engineers at PSA Peugeot-Citroen.
“We’ve had an excellent working relationship with the PSA group for 20 years now”, explains Peter.
“We knew that our Peugeot Partner conversion, which had become so popular with wheelchair users and carers, would be a hard act to follow but PSA’s all-new Peugeot Rifter is simply the perfect starting point for the task.
“Taking over from Partner in Peugeot’s model line-up, new Rifter represents a huge leap forward in terms of technology, economy and modern good looks. Just as importantly, it continues the tradition of spacious interior dimensions, which are so crucial for creating space and comfort for the wheelchair user.”
So the story continues and wheelchair users and wheelchair accessible vehicle providers will soon have the fabulous new Peugeot Rifter available to them, complete with Allied Mobility’s latest and greatest wheelchair accessible transformation.
In terms of wheelchair accessible features, the all new Peugeot Rifter Horizon will feature an updated version of the brilliantly user-friendly EasyGlide access ramp. Unique to Allied Mobility, this innovative wheelchair ramp simple pulls out from the vehicle floor to create a low-angle pathway into the car.
Other wheelchair accessible vehicle features include an level platform and excellent eye-line for wheelchair passengers and provision of top-quality of wheelchair occupant restraints and seat belts. Safety on-board is further assured thanks to extensive tests to ensure the vehicle meets Europe’s highest safety standards for the design and construction of special-purpose wheelchair accessible vehicles.
On top of all this, Allied Mobility has chosen to base the new-generation Horizon wheelchair accessible car on the premium specification Allure model. As a result, all passengers, including of course wheelchair occupants, will enjoy numerous additional features including:
