Grandparents Brian and Joyce Alexander, from Gateshead, are delighted that their new Fiat Freedom wheelchair accessible vehicle is helping them to get out and about with their grandson, Liam.
16-year old Liam, who has muscular atrophy, has a busy life between school, his hobby as a DJ and indulging his love for Playstation computer games. Having a wheelchair accessible car helps to keep Liam – and his grandparents – on the go.
Brian recalls: “I gave Allied Mobility a call and explained what we needed. After discussing our options it became clear the Fiat Freedom ticked all the boxes so we arranged a home demonstration. Our local mobility consultant, Neil, brought the car to our home which gave us the chance to test it out.
Ideal Wheelchair Ramp
“Liam’s powerchair is quite big so we needed a wheelchair ramp that could cater for it. The ramp on the Freedom’s ideal as it has lots of space either side when Liam is on the ramp, so getting his powerchair in and out is simple.
Based on the new model Fiat Doblo, the all-new Freedom™ offers excellent accessibility for wheelchair or scooter users. Offering class-leading added headroom and bags of space, this stylish mobility car is ideal for taller people or those with larger wheelchairs.
The Freedom is packed with accessibility features including a lowered floor, lightweight access ramp and full wheelchair restraint system. Add to this the choice of a manual or automatic gearbox, air conditioning, fuel-saving stop-start technology and a CD player and it’s easy to see why the Freedom is both comfortable and practical.
Enjoying the Freedom
Brian continues: “The whole family’s really happy with the car. I love driving it and both Liam and Joyce find it really comfortable – we love the view we have when travelling.”
“Liam’s a budding DJ and he plays gigs quite regularly. He often needs to take equipment with him like speakers and lights. You could say the Freedom and I are his roadies! I provide the taxi service and the car transports us and all his equipment. There’s so much room even when Liam’s powerchair is in the car, it’s great!”
Seal of Approval
Brian concludes: “I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Allied Mobility. From our first contact to the day our new WAV was delivered, the service definitely gets the seal of approval from us. The staff were really helpful and you could tell they knew their stuff. Everyone we dealt with was great.”
