A charity in Harrogate has been able to hit the road and enjoy outings safely, thanks to Allied Mobility Hire. CEO of Harrogate Skills 4 Life Centre (HS4LC), Hadyn Moorby-Davies, reached out to tell us that their long-term mobility car hire has been so successful that they’re now fundraising to purchase their very own wheelchair accessible vehicle!
“Hiring a vehicle offered us the best possible solution to our needs.”
Skills For Life
HS4LC supports adults living with learning disabilities and autism at their day centre and two residential care homes. Staff help the care users live fulfilling lives and also organise regular outings and educational opportunities for the 13 residents who live in the homes.
A Safer Solution
After months of restrictions earlier in the year and with lockdown rules easing, the residents were keen to enjoy the outdoors again. As public transport was a risky option, Hadyn decided that hiring an accessible car would be a safer and a more convenient alternative.
He explains: “Hiring a vehicle offered us the best possible solution to our needs. Without it our residents wouldn’t be able to go out on trips let alone even go to the local shops or anywhere in the local community.”
With no experience of renting a disability car before, he was pleasantly surprised at just how easy the process was with Allied Mobility. His dedicated hire consultant, Janet, introduced him to the range of vehicles available and offered him expert recommendations of those best suited to his requirements.
Hadyn recalls: “Hiring with Allied Mobility was remarkably straightforward. Dealing with one person throughout made the whole process very efficient as well as more personal.”
Independence for Everyone!
After discussing the options, Hadyn decided that the roomy Ford Independence™ was the perfect choice. With its spacious and comfortable interior, not to mention its great accessibility features, the Independence™ gave the service users the perfect way to get around and the freedom to enjoy the outdoors. From days out to the coast to nipping to the local shops, the Independence™ made life simple.
Hadyn explains: “After months of lockdown our residents were instantly able to go out on countryside and seaside trips as well as out and about in the local community. Staff accompanying residents on trips thoroughly enjoyed themselves too – meaning everyone was happy!”
Two months on, the wheelchair accessible vehicle is still a hit with the care home residents and is used daily. So much so, that the charity is looking forward to purchasing their very own mobility car from Allied Mobility. It seems for the staff and residents at HS4LC, the future’s looking independent!
Hadyn concludes: “The experience has been so straightforward but lifechanging for the service users.”
