Happiness on the Horizon

January 24, 2014

When Hazel and Charles Merrett, from Norfolk, found that their adapted car no longer suited their needs they turned to Allied Mobility to find a wheelchair accessible vehicle to replace it.

Impressed by the range of vehicles on offer, they decided to get in touch to see what car would work best for them.

The size of vehicle was important to the Merretts, as they were used to driving a standard car and didn’t want anything too large.  Equally, they needed a vehicle with ample space for Charles and his wheelchair.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle

The UK’s most popular wheelchair accessible vehicle, the Peugeot Horizon, was recommended and the Merretts decided to try it out.  Allied’s local mobility advisor, Karen, brought a Horizon™ to their home for a demonstration and showed the couple everything from the light-weight ramp to its specially lowered floor.

Enamoured by what they’d seen, the couple decided it was the car for them.

Hazel comments: “Karen was really helpful.  We weren’t sure exactly what we needed and she really helped us come to a decision.

“It was like she knew what was perfect for us before we did!  Once we decided on Horizon there was a really quick turn around from us placing our order to the car arriving on our doorstep.  We were really impressed.”

Having their own wheelchair accessible vehicle has greatly improved daily life for Hazel and Charles.

“Trips to the doctor’s or the shops are so much easier,” says Hazel.  “There’s no need now for Charles to transfer out of his wheelchair.  Once we arrive at our destination he simply exits down the ramp and we’re on our way.  The ramp is so light and easy to use, it’s brilliant.”

Beside the Seaside

The couple like visiting the seaside and make regular trips to see their daughter in Wales.

Hazel comments: “Family outings with our kids are much more comfortable thanks to the extra space in Horizon.

“We’ve recently been looking into our family tree so we’ve used our Horizon to go out and about, visiting graveyards and researching our ancestry.  Because it’s easy for Charles to get in and out of the car now, outings are so much more convenient.”

She continues: “Charles feels like he’s part of everything now and loves that the lowered floor allows him to see perfectly out of the windows.”

Hazel has been pleasantly surprised by her Horizon™: “I thought a wheelchair accessible vehicle might be quite cumbersome but Horizon is a lovely car to drive and most importantly easy to park!

“Allied Mobility has been fantastic and we’ve found the help on offer invaluable.  When we started our search we had no idea what was right for us and Allied made sure we were paired with the perfect car.”
