For families searching for a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), the Motability Scheme is one of the most popular ways to finance their freedom. Convenient and fuss-free, leasing your Allied Mobility vehicle on the Motability Scheme couldn’t be easier. Helen Donohoe has leased her current WAV, the Volkswagen Vista™ with Allied Mobility for the last four and a half years and is now set to renew her Motability contract. While looking for her next accessible car at a recent event, she chatted with us about how her Allied Mobility journey started.
Making Life Easier
Helen and her husband Neil live in Cumbria with their three children, including nine-year-old, Jack. Jack lives with a metabolic disorder called NKH (Non-ketotic hyperglycinemia) and uses a wheelchair full time. Before purchasing a wheelchair accessible vehicle, Helen and Neil would carry Jack in and out of the car. As he got older, they knew that an accessible car would make life easier for them all.
Helen explains: “As Jack got heavier, the type of wheelchair he used also got heavier so it made sense to get an accessible car. It means that he’s always warm and comfortable and we don’t have to lift him out and into a car seat.”
Discovering Something New
Helen and her family first got in touch in 2015 after she spotted an Allied Mobility advert in the Motability magazine, Lifestyle. Nearly five years on, Helen and Neil are now preparing to renew their Motability contract. Helen and Neil received a letter from Motability to let them know that their contract was due for renewal in six months and they could now start looking for their next accessible vehicle. Once again, they enlisted Allied Mobility to help them find their perfect WAV and joined us at a recent event.
Helen adds: “Our first experience with Allied Mobility was really smooth. That’s why we’re keen to come back. We can now start arranging new home demonstrations and looking at the different options from Allied Mobility.”
Motability Peace of Mind
In the coming weeks, Helen and Neil’s local Allied Mobility advisor will call to talk them through the latest disabled cars on offer. Then it’s time to decide which models they’d like to arrange a home demonstration for. Will they choose another Vista™ or plump for a different model? A likely contender is the new Peugeot Rifter Horizon™ which Helen was eyeing up at our latest event. An upgraded version of the previous Horizon™ the new model comes complete with an all new base model and a host of modern features.
Sticking with Allied Mobility
As the family is able to order their new car three months before the end of their contract, there’s still time to decide. Whatever their choice, Helen says that one thing’s for sure, they’ll be sticking with another Allied Mobility vehicle.
Helen concludes: “We’d definitely recommend Allied Mobility to any friends or family who were in the position of needing a wheelchair accessible car. It’s made a huge difference to our lives and we couldn’t manage without it now.”
