Getting out and about in a standard car was becoming troublesome for David Bibby, a wheelchair user from Cleethorpes in South Humberside. After discovering the wheelchair accessible Peugeot Independence from Allied Mobility, David can now travel comfortably whilst remaining in his wheelchair.
In 1973 David had a motorbike accident which restricted his mobility and over the years he’s found it more and more difficult to transfer to a car seat. Now with his new wheelchair accessible Independence, David and his wife, Louise, are enjoying life that bit more. David said: “Our new car is fantastic. I found it so uncomfortable moving to a car seat before but now I don’t need to, it’s absolutely brilliant!”
Accessible and Versatile
The Peugeot Independence, based on the Peugeot Expert, is a multi passenger vehicle which features the EasyFold™ wheelchair ramp and lowering air suspension. Together these provide one of the lowest ramp gradients available in the UK, allowing easy wheelchair passenger entry and exit.
With optimum accessibility, the Peugeot Independence offers a larger-size mobility car designed to give wheelchair users a hassle-free journey, every time. David comments: “The ramp is really low to the ground and with the added help of the retracting wheelchair restraints, Louise has no problem getting me in and out safely. The wheelchair passenger seatbelt always makes me feel very secure when I’m travelling in the car.”
David and Louise are enjoying taking trips out and about and are really looking forward to their upcoming holiday: “We really enjoy our trips together, it’s great to know we can just pop out whenever we like, whenever we like.”
David explains: “It’s Louise’s birthday next week so we’re going shopping in York. We’re also heading off on a Mediterranean cruise in a few months and after the very cold winter this year we can’t wait for a little sunshine!”
David also enjoyed his experience of dealing with Allied Mobility: “The service from Allied was fantastic. Everyone I spoke to was helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend Allied to anyone looking for a wheelchair accessible car or MPV. Their service was ten out of ten and we just love our new mobility car.”
The Independence is now available with a range of different seating layouts accommodating driver, wheelchair passenger and up to six seated passengers. The wheelchair passenger can also now be positioned directly behind the front passenger, allowing them to be closer to driver and other passengers.
