Independence Brings Family Together

21. Dezember 2012

When it was time for Angela and James Kay to choose their next wheelchair accessible vehicle there was one family car that stood out from all the rest.

After coming to the end of their Motability contract on their first wheelchair car and with their family growing up fast, the couple decided it was time to find a car with more space.

Family Challenge

With a daughter, Nicola, and two sons, Dylan and James, the Kay family could fill most cars.  Add to this Dylan’s wheelchair and it’s easy to see why the search for an ideal vehicle could throw up some challenges.

Thankfully, Angela and James were no strangers to wheelchair accessible vehicles, having owned a Peugeot Horizon for the past five years.

Angela explains: “We loved our old Horizon but we’ve found ourselves needing more space.  Dylan has cerebral palsy so we have various pieces of equipment we need to take with us when we travel.  Finding a mobility car with space for the whole family as well as Dylan’s wheelchair and his equipment was really important for us.”

“Having got our last car from Allied Mobility we gave them a call and explained we needed a larger family car.  It soon became clear the Peugeot Independence was the perfect vehicle for us, so we booked a home demonstration.”

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles with Extra Family Space

“When we first saw the Independence we thought it was brilliant.  Not only could the five of us all fit in the car but our mobility consultant, Scott, explained we could also have an extra seat fitted beside Dylan’s wheelchair in the back.

“This was a huge benefit for us as, not only does this help Dylan to relax, it means someone is always with him in case he suffers a seizure.  As I’m often the driver it really gives me peace of mind to know he has someone beside him, whether it’s my husband or Dylan’s carer, Leonike.”

Based on the Peugeot Expert Tepee, the Peugeot Independence is ideal for families who need a wheelchair accessible vehicle with lots of space.  With a lowered floor, EasyFold™ wheelchair ramp and easy-to-use wheelchair securing system, the Independence offers optimum accessibility for the wheelchair passenger.

Available in a range of models and with a variety of seating layouts, including the option of carrying up to two wheelchairs, the Independence combines flexibility, convenience and style to make the ideal mobility car for those who need extra room.

Angela continues: “There’s also enough space in the car for Dylan’s P-pod seat.  It’s a special supportive seat designed for children and Dylan loves it.  Being able to take that with us when we travel has made a massive difference.  We can take it on holiday or when Dylan goes for respite.  He’s so happy he can have it with him all the time!

Little Extras, Big Difference

“We chose to have privacy glass included on our Independence.  Both my husband and I find it makes things a bit easier when we’re out as we don’t always need to be looking for changing facilities.  The tinted windows mean we can attend to Dylan in privacy.

“We regularly go on family holidays to Lochgoilhead, on the west coast of Scotland.  We stay in one of the pine lodges and the kids love it.  Owning the Independence means we can now take all Dylan’s equipment as well as everything else we need.  It helps to make the holiday even more enjoyable.”

Personal Service

Angela concludes: “The service we received was brilliant.  I really liked the fact we dealt with Scott again as he was our mobility consultant last time and we thought he was lovely – it felt like a personal service.  It was a nice bit of continuity and we liked that he was a local man.

“We’re so happy with the car I’ve recommended both the Independence and Allied Mobility to lots of people I know.  We couldn’t be happier!”
