With four daughters, John and Kelly Hodgson have a family big enough to fill most cars but given that their daughter, Charlotte, is a wheelchair user finding a car suited to all their needs could have proved challenging. Thanks to Allied Mobility it turned out to be easier than they had expected.
John and Kelly, from Uxbridge in Middlesex, had never owned a wheelchair accessible vehicle before but with their daughters growing up and Charlotte getting a bigger wheelchair, it became more difficult to transport everyone in the same car.
John commented: “Given the size of our family, having a spacious, accessible car had become essential for us. In our previous vehicle we transferred Charlotte from her wheelchair into the car and transported her wheelchair in the boot. As you can imagine, this could be quite awkward. Charlotte recently got a bigger wheelchair so transporting it in the boot is no longer an option. Getting a wheelchair accessible vehicle was the obvious solution.”
Discovering Mobility Cars
John continues: “I came across Allied Mobility and was impressed with their range ofmobility cars and prices. I gave them a call and arranged a demonstration of the Peugeot Independence. It wasn’t long before our local Allied Mobility consultant, Paul, popped round to demonstrate the vehicle.
“We were really impressed with both the functionality and the look of the vehicle so we didn’t hesitate in placing our order.”
Based on the Peugeot Expert Tepee, the Peugeot Independence is ideal for larger families looking for a wheelchair accessible vehicle. With a lowered floor, EasyFold™ wheelchair ramp and easy-to-use restraints, the Independence offers optimum accessibility for the wheelchair passenger. Available in a range of models and seating layouts, the Independence mobility car combines flexibility, convenience and style to make the ideal large family vehicle.
John enthuses: “The accessibility features are so easy to use, putting Charlotte into the car is effortless. We only have to fold down the wheelchair ramp, attach the winch, guide Charlotte’s wheelchair into the car, attach the restraints and seatbelt and off we go. I don’t know why we hadn’t considered getting a wheelchair accessible vehicle sooner!
“My wife and I also really like having sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle. It helps to make things that bit easier when getting our other three girls in and out of the vehicle. ”
“The Independence has made such a difference to all our lives,” explains John. We’ve been on more than 20 trips over the summer as a family, including Alton Towers, which the girls loved! They really enjoyed their school holidays this year due to the flexibility we have now.
“Before we would have to plan in advance if we wanted to go away, now we can go on a family trip whenever we like. It really does feel like there is no end to the things we can do now.”
“The service we received from Allied was spot on. Our mobility advisor Paul was polite and helpful. He made us feel really well looked after and we could always get in contact with him when we needed to.
“From the service we received to the car itself, we really couldn’t be happier.”
