Seeing Europe with Independence

12. Februar 2013

When the McIver family, from Kilmarnock, were nearing the end of the lease on their accessible car, they didn’t take too long to decide on a replacement.  So impressed with the Peugeot Independence™ they already had from Allied Mobility, they got straight back in touch to order another.

Accessible Choice

Requiring a wheelchair accessible car that would accommodate the family of five,Independence™ was an easy choice for the McIvers.

Jim explains: “My wife, Margaret, uses a wheelchair and we have three children: Jamie, Adam and Lauren, so a car with plenty of space is a really high priority. With Independence there’s loads of room for all of us, which is a great advantage.”

When they decided to renew their accessible car, the McIvors got in touch with Allied and were quickly offered a home demonstration of the latest Independence model.  Mobility advisor Michael brought the car to their home in Ayrshire, which helped the family decideIndependence was again the best solution for them.

Jim recalls: “It was really easy to organise a test drive. I just phoned up and made an appointment and they arranged everything to suit Margaret and me.”

Road Trip

Jim regularly drives their Independence and finds it really comfortable.  The McIvers have travelled up and down the country and as far afield as Prague and the Swiss Alps in their WAV.

Jim says he’s never had a problem: “Some days we’re in the car for four or five hours at a time and it’s still really comfortable.  Plus the fuel economy is brilliant – we went from Kilmarnock to Callais in a full car with one tank of petrol.”

Exclusively available from Allied Mobility, the Peugeot Expert Independence™ comes with an EasyFold™ wheelchair ramp which Jim finds really simple to use.  The ramp is so light that their 11 year old daughter Lauren can easily put it up and down for her mum when needed.

Jim mentions how much of a change having Independence™ makes: “Margaret wouldn’t really be able to get out at all if we didn’t have it.

“Our eldest son is at university in Aberdeen and getting there on public transport is a nightmare. If it wasn’t for our accessible car we wouldn’t get up to see him as often as we do, so it’s a really great addition to our lives.

“We often go to the cinema or out for dinner. We live a short distance from the seaside too so being able to just get in the car and drive off along the front has made life so much better for us. Our children play rugby which takes them all over Scotland so having an accessible vehicle means Margaret doesn’t have to miss any of their games.”

Plans for the Future

The family also used Independence™ to take the whole family away for a week, near Lossiemouth, in a holiday cottage which they all loved.

Jim has great plans for the next few years: “The kids loved Prague and Budapest, especially the water parks, so they’re desperate to go back there.  We’d love to take another road trip over to the continent and spend a few weeks touring around. Hopefully we can do that soon.”

Jim can’t fault the service he’s received from Allied from the start: “I’ve had a vehicle from Allied Mobility  for six years now and I’ve never had any problems.  Our mobility advisor was really helpful and the car was delivered right to our door, exactly when we were told it would be. Without a wheelchair accessible car my wife wouldn’t be able to go on holiday or do everyday things like go shopping in Glasgow.  Having an Independence has given Margaret her life back.”
