Since its launch last year, the Peugeot Independence has proved a huge hit with families and small groups looking for a multi-seat wheelchair accessible vehicle. Now – based on feedback from customers – Allied Mobility has extended the Independence range with several important additional choices on seating layout.
Adapted by Allied from the Peugeot Expert Tepee MPV, the Independence provides full wheelchair access to the rear of the vehicle. This is made as easy as possible through lowering suspension and the innovative EasyFold™ wheelchair access ramp.
Options
Motability figures show Allied Mobility to be the market-leader in disabled cars and MPVs but the company is always keen to respond to feedback and increase customer choice.
As a result of recent feedback from customers, the Independence S model is now available with several new seating layouts. This means, for example, that the wheelchair passenger can be situated near the back of the car, for quick access or further forward, to be closer to front seat passengers. There’s also an option to add an additional tip and fold seat in the rear, taking total seated capacity to seven, along with a wheelchair occupant. Other customers use the wheelchair stance to store their scooter, while transferring over to the neighbouring seat.
Innovation
Another innovation is the new Independence SE model. This provides even more choice by offering a lowered floor section in the rear of the vehicle. This creates even more headroom for taller wheelchair users. Finally there’s even a two-wheelchair model – known, fittingly, as the Independence Twin.
Managing director Paul Nelson explains: “The Independence has proved a real winner, with more and more customers choosing this MPV-style vehicle and offering lots of praise for its roominess and flexibility.
“At the same time, we got some great ideas from users about other ways of offering the seating layout. This business is all about adapting to meet the needs of particular individuals, so really the more choice we can offer, the better.”
Paul concludes: “I’m delighted that, in this case, we’ve been able to respond with not one but several new model options. Early signs are that these are already hitting the mark with particular customers.
