Allied Mobility at Full STEAM

STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway, in Swindon – proved a great venue for the South West Mobility day.

The event, organsied by Allied Mobility, saw a collection of wheelchair accessible vehicles, mobility products, charities and services descend on Wiltshire.

Against the odds – and the impending grey skies- the day stayed dry and STEAM provided the perfect backdrop for the one day mobility event.  With a brilliant turn out, the day saw almost 300 people in attendance, who were all treated to an array of great products, charities and organisations, free entry to the fascinating museum and – most importantly – plenty of tea, coffee and chocolate biscuits!

Travelling through Time

The STEAM Museum provides an engaging glimpse into the history of the Great Western Railway and lets visitors travel through time to meet the people who helped build it.  The museum even features a simulator, so budding train drivers can gain a taste of what it takes to drive a steam engine.

Allied Mobility had its full family of accessible vehicles on show and visitors were encouraged to try them out.  Experienced mobility advisors were on hand to talk people through all of the features of the different wheelchair accessible vehicles.  Test drives were also available for anyone who wanted to experience one of our cars on the road.

Innovative New Models

Our new model Peugeot Horizon™ and Volkswagen Vista™ were a popular choice, featuring brand new, easy-to-use ramps and spacious interiors.  Horizon’s new EasyLift™ ramp is designed with simplicity in mind and is mechanically assisted to make lowering and lifting effortless. Vista’s added space means that it’s more versatile than ever and allows room for even larger wheelchairs or scooters.  Both Vista’s EasyFold™ and Horizon’s EasyLift™ ramp fold flat when not in use, providing bags of room for shopping or luggage.

Plenty to See

Plenty of exhibitors were there to make sure the day was varied and interesting.  Disabled flying charity Aerobility proved a hit with their brilliant flight simulator, which allowed people of any ability to get a taste for piloting their own plane.  Charities and organisations such as Wheelchair Dance Sport Association, DMUK, Caudwell Children and Accessible Travel all made an impact on the day, providing plenty of information and advice to visitors.
