David Weir – What a Year!

Wheelchair racer David Weir has crowned his amazing year by being named British Paralympic athlete of the year.  The “Weirwolf” as he’s affectionately known to his fans can seem to do no wrong at the moment, adding this accolade to his four Olympic gold medals from London 2012.

David received 48% of fans votes for the accolade.  Gold medal winning heptathlete, Jessica Ennis, was named British Olympic athlete of the year.

David, who demonstrated amazing versatility in winning gold in the 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m and marathon, already boasts two gold medals from the Beijing 2008 Paralympics.

The 33 year old from Surrey commented: “It’s a great honour, especially considering that Great Britain had a number of athletes that won gold medals and performed so well in London.

“It’s been such a great year for me and my success at the Paralympics is something that I will always remember.  To have my performances recognised by athletics fans across the country is a great way to end the year.”
