Top-up Help for Disabled Drivers

| Uncategorized

New technology is set to be rolled out at filling stations across the UK to make refuelling mobility cars easier for drivers with disabilities.

Pinpoint works by the disabled motorist clicking a special keyfob which sends a signal to a staff receiver in the forecourt shop.  The fuel station assistant will then acknowledge the request for help by sending a signal back to the motorist to let them know someone is coming to help them.  The assistant will locate the motorist by looking for a Pinpoint sticker displayed on their car windscreen.   The assistant will then refuel the customer’s car and arrange payment.

Independent Motoring

The technology has already been trialled by Sainsbury’s Springfield Petrol Station in Essex, as well as the supermarket’s forecourts in Purley Way, London and Tunbridge Wells in Kent.  Now it’s set to be rolled out across the country over the next 12 months.

Creator Daniel Biddle, a survivor of the London 7/7 bombings, commented: “Pinpoint is a cost-effective way of improving independent motoring for disabled drivers. The feedback has been excellent, with users saying things like ‘brilliant idea, I hope it comes to all petrol stations as it’s invaluable to a wheelchair user’; and ‘an excellent drive to take the stress out of refuelling’.”
