Motability has announced the launch of a new financial package designed to support people with disabilities who are affected by the upcoming Personal Independence Payment (PIP) reassessments.

Replacement Scheme

Personal Independence Payment has been introduced by the Government to gradually replace the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for people with disabilities between the ages of 16 and 64.  The new scheme has different criteria to determine who will or will not be eligible for mobility support and at which level, so some people may find that they no longer qualify for the Motability Scheme.

In response, Motability is working on a package to help those who need information and support during this transition, aiming to contact all those affected and provide more detailed advice on how to maintain independence if their eligibility changes.

Support

The support package could offer a one-off payment of £2000 to Motability customers who joined the Scheme before January 2013.  The payment will be made to those who return their mobility vehicle to the dealership in good condition within 21 days of their Disability Living Allowance stopping.

Customers with wheelchair accessible vehicles will have a longer transitional period of six months to return their vehicle during which time Motability will be working with the people affected to discuss their next step and give them advice on their options moving forward.

The Motability support package has been created to provide assistance to those customers who find themselves without an accessible vehicle, especially if it was completely unexpected.  For more information about how they can help you or anyone you know who may be affected click  www.motability.co.uk/pip.
