Disabled Children’s Services Head Awarded MBE

Janet Leach, head of the service for disabled children at Enfield council has been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours List. chosen for her work with disabled children for almost 40 years Janet was  awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British empire). An MBE is awarded for a significant achievement or outstanding service to the community, in the instance that someone stands out as an example to others.

Recognition of hard work

Janet was made aware of her award at the start of last month and has been “excited and delighted” ever since the letter arrived from the government notifying her of her New Year’s Honour. The letter stated that she had been nominated by her colleagues, who recognised the difference that Janet had made to people’s lives over the last 39 years.

Janet credits her colleagues for their backing and praises the success of the service.

Janet wasn’t able to tell her family about her MBE until it was publicly announced. “It was very difficult trying to keep things quiet” She went on to say that she felt she had been rewarded for the hard work and commitment and was looking forward to her day at the Buckingham Palace sometime before June 2016.

Providing Support

Ms Leach leads the joint service at Enfield Council which provides an array of services for people with disabilities from newly born children to 17 years olds and their families. She works with a team of social and care workers, and specialist teachers. Together they provide support, information and guidance for those with lifelong or profound disabilities that would need permanent assistance.

Janet credits her colleagues for their backing and praises the success of the service. Those that she has helped have shown their appreciation too by texting and emailing her some lovely words of encouragement.
