International Museum Day: 4 Accessible Museums to visit in the UK

Looking for some accessible places to visit in your wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) over the summer holidays? 

The UK is home to many remarkable and accessible museums, so to celebrate International Museum Day, we created a list of wheelchair accessible museums across the UK to keep the whole family occupied this summer! 

Royal Air Force Museum 

Located in Colindale, North London, the RAF Museum offers a fun and engaging experience showing the history of aviation and the Royal Air Force. Getting around the museum is easy thanks to full step-free access to all hangers and exhibitions, accessible lifts, accessible toilets and a Changing Places toilet in Hanger 2. The museum also provides disabled parking on site for Blue Badge holders, so you can park your mobility vehicle with no stress!

National Museum of Scotland 

The National Museum of Scotland is located on Chambers Street in Edinburgh where you can explore multiple galleries ranging from arts and culture to science and technology and discover amazing objects all in one place!  

The museum offers accessible services such as accessible lifts, toilets and a Changing Places facility on level 0; the museum also offers FREE parking for disabled visitors at four designated public parking spaces.

Tate Modern 

Located on Bankside, in the London Borough of Southwark, Tate Modern is a leading modern and contemporary art museum and is part of the Tate network of galleries including Tate Britain, Tate St Ives and Tate Liverpool.  

The gallery has fully accessible toilets and a Changing Places toilet is available on level 0. It also offers twelve parking spaces for disabled visitors, which you can book 24 hours prior to your visit.

Science and Industry Museum 

The Science and Industry Museum is located on Liverpool Road in Manchester where you can enjoy a unique backdrop to explore over 250 years of innovation. It’s a fun and engaging journey through the city’s rich industrial and scientific heritage.  

The museum includes step-free entry and offers wheelchair accessible lifts to all floor levels; you can also expect accessible toilets too. The museum provides its disabled customers with FREE parking with three Blue Badge parking spaces outside the museum on lower Byrom Street.
