Allied Mobility WAVs
As the UK’s leading wheelchair accessible vehicle manufacturer, you can be confident that the converted wheelchair car you receive will not only be built to the highest safety standards, but it will also be stylish and brimming with all of the same great features you’ve come to expect from a modern car. Our expert design engineering team get us started by creating unique conversions that focus on wheelchair accessibility, safety, space and comfort. Then it’s over to the specialist production team who build more than 150 wheelchair accessible vehicles each week.
WAVs on the Motability Scheme
The Motability Scheme allows you to exchange and use your qualifying disability allowance towards the cost of leasing a brand-new or nearly-new car, depending on your preference or budget. To make things easier for you, the Scheme receives this qualifying allowance directly from your provider.
What’s Included on the Motability Scheme?
Alongside a brand-new or nearly-new WAV, you will benefit from an all-inclusive package which includes:
- Insurance for up to three drivers
- Servicing and maintenance which includes an annual safety check of your accessible vehicle features.
- Full breakdown cover
- Tyre repair and replacement
- Home chargepoint and standard installation included in your lease if you choose an electric WAV on the Motability Scheme
- HomeStay™ Mobile Servicing (exclusive with Allied Mobility)
Am I Eligible for the Motability Scheme?
If you’re not already a Motability Scheme customer, you may be eligible to join the Scheme if you’re in receipt of one of the following disability allowances:
- The higher rate mobility part of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Enhanced rate part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) (known as Child/ Adult Disability Payment if you live in Scotland)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
You must also have at least 12 months remaining on your qualifying allowance in order to apply. If there’s less than 12 months left on your qualifying allowance, you will need to wait until your allowance provider renews your award.
What is an Advance Payment?
As well as your monthly payment to the Motability Scheme, you will have to pay an Advance Payment (AP) which is a one-off, upfront payment made directly to us. Due to a WAV’s specialised conversion, the AP for a wheelchair accessible car can be slightly higher than the AP for a standard car.
If the Advance Payment of your chosen WAV is outwith your budget, you may be entitled to financial help to cover the cost of your AP, or for additional adaptations you need, through the Motability Foundation’s WAV Grant Programme.

This will be based on your wheelchair size, the additional passenger seats you’ll require and any specific manufacturer features you’re looking for such as Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a reverse camera or even heated seats.

HomeStay™ Mobile Service
With our HomeStay™ Mobile Service, you can have your vehicle serviced right outside your front door!
For Motability Scheme customers this service is free of charge throughout the duration of your Scheme lease. We can visit you and service your Ford, Vauxhall or Peugeot (excluding eHorizon™) wheelchair accessible car with our mobile service vans. For other makes of vehicle, we’ll help you book your WAV into your local garage.
If you own your own WAV, you’ll pay the same standard maintenance rates that you would at a regular motor dealer service centre.
Annual Safety Check
If you decide to lease an Allied Mobility new or nearly-new WAV through the Motability Scheme, you’ll benefit from an annual vehicle safety inspection where a trained technician will arrange a suitable time to come to your home and carry out a safety check covering key accessibility and vehicle components. (This will usually happen on the same day as your home vehicle service if this applies to you.)
