400 Job Applications Without Reply

Daryl Jones, a business and marketing graduate claims he applied for 400 jobs without a response. However, this changed once he amended his CV and removed any content that mentioned his disabilty.

Making Changes

The 27 year old suffers from Marfan Syndrome, which affects the connective tissue. Daryl says that he gets a lot of dislocations, meaning he is sometimes in need of a wheelchair.

After completing his degree, Daryl then began to seek employment but didn’t receive any replies, until he decided to amend his CV. He omitted mentions of his involvement in playing different disability sports and the fact he had founded his own charity called Disability Sport Humber.

He stated: “I have a degree and when I’ve spoken to people they’ve agreed that I have relevant qualifications and plenty of experience so can’t understand why I’m unable to get a job.”

He has subsequently had 12 interviews since amending his CV. However, Daryl is still unemployed and the reasons given by employers have been that he lacks experience or other candidates were more suited.

Keen to work

Some have suggested that Daryl should draw a salary from the charity that he founded, but he doesn’t want to do that as this will have a direct impact on how much money goes towards disabled sports.

He continues: “lt’s disappointing as my condition doesn’t affect my ability to work. There are various physical jobs that I can’t do but in terms of office work I could do this without issue and have applied for many different roles without success.”
