As the UK’s leading wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) supplier, we convert all our WAVs from stylish base models produced by trusted manufactures such as Peugeot, Citroën, Volkswagen, Renault, Vauxhall and Ford. As a result, all of the features you’d expect to find in an average car, you can find in our WAVs.
From air conditioning, DAB radios, Bluetooth, colour touchscreens, Mirror Screen®, Sat Navs and heated seats, what you gain in accessibility when switching to a WAV, you don’t lose in style, spec and design.
What is a WAV?
A wheelchair accessible vehicle, or WAV for short, is an adapted vehicle that allows wheelchair users to drive or travel from the comfort of their wheelchair. If you prefer to transfer to an upfront passenger or driver seat, an internal transfer WAV is a great option as the conversion allows you to stow your wheelchair in the wheelchair travelling position, removing the need to break down and build up your wheelchair before and after travel.
Key accessibility features of a WAV often include:
- A lightweight access ramp in the rear
- An easy use, electric-assist winch
- Special wheelchair restraints
- Special wheelchair occupant seatbelts
- A lowered floor to provide additional headroom and a lower ramp gradient
What Kind of WAVs Are There?
There are three types of wheelchair access car: passenger WAVs, drive from wheelchair WAVs and up front passenger WAVs. Which kind you opt for depends on whether you would like to travel as a backseat passenger, up front passenger or drive the vehicle.
What is a passenger WAV?
A passenger WAV is the most popular kind of conversion; it allows you to travel in the second or third row of the vehicle in your wheelchair. We have eight passenger WAVs ranging from small to medium-large, with various seating layouts available.
All of our passenger WAVs come with a lightweight, easy-use ramp, an electric-assist winch to help guide the wheelchair user in and out of the vehicle and privacy glass for your comfort.
The UK’s most popular passenger WAV is our Peugeot Horizon™
Favoured for its compact, yet spacious size and sleek design, Horizon™, based on the Peugeot Rifter Allure, comes with impressive specification as standard.
Having recently made the switch from a standard car to a Peugeot Horizon™ WAV, Christine Heywood and her husband Chris, say,
“We have not lost out in any way by moving to this type of vehicle. All the modern up to date features are incorporated into this WAV.”
With features such as a 180° colour reversing camera, a PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® 10″ colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay™/ Andriod Auto® and 16” alloy wheels – Horizon™ doesn’t only look good on the road, it provides safety, comfort and entertainment too.

Both drive from wheelchair WAVs and upfront passenger WAVs have a one-touch automatic tailgate and wheelchair ramp release designed to ensure you can easily enter the vehicle in your manual or powered wheelchair, to the driver or upfront passenger position without assistance from a fellow traveller.
