At Allied Mobility, we not only design and manufacture stylish wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs), but we also build lasting relationships with our customers. For over 30 years, we’ve supported tens of thousands of wheelchair users with expert mobility guidance, reliable accessible vehicles and ongoing aftersales support they can depend on.
Whether you’re new to WAVs or looking to upgrade your wheels, our team of mobility experts are always on hand offering advice and support, at every stage of your WAV journey.
Someone who has come to know our WAVs and service well is Kevin McKie, a valued Allied Mobility customer for over 12 years. You may recognise Kevin from a previous customer story we did in 2024, but having now taken delivery of Ford Freedom™, his third Allied Mobility WAV, we caught up with him once more to learn what has kept him coming back to us for more than a decade.
Why an Allied Mobility WAV?
As Kevin approached the renewal date of his Motability Scheme WAV lease, he got back in touch with Allied Mobility for help finding a new accessible vehicle. Explaining why he decided to stick with Allied Mobility for a third time, Kevin said:
“I just wanted another WAV that suited my wheelchair needs and what made me come back to Allied Mobility was the outstanding service. They’re only a phone call away and there’s always help and support. I’m delighted with the company.”
With a clear understanding of Kevin’s wheelchair dimensions and requirements, his dedicated mobility consultant matched him with Ford Freedom™ – a stylish WAV that combines ultra-modern comfort and style, with leading wheelchair accessibility.
To ensure Freedom™ was indeed the right fit for Kevin, his mobility consultant brought the vehicle out to his home for a free demonstration.
Home Demonstrations, UK-wide
Every WAV is a different, so it’s important to check that you and your wheelchair fit safely inside your chosen vehicle. It’s equally essential that you and those you travel with know how to use the accessibility features of your WAV so you can hit the road with confidence. That’s why our mobility consultants will always provide a free home demonstration of the WAV you’re most interested in.
Having had several home demos over the years, Kevin explains the importance of this step in the journey to a new WAV:
“The home demonstration is very useful because the consultant shows you what the WAV consists of and then if you have any questions, you can ask the mobility consultant who is very helpful, kind and polite.”
Following the home demo, Kevin was confident Freedom™ was the WAV for him and so his mobility consultant helped him with all the necessary paperwork to place an order.

Ford Freedom™ Features
With the wheelchair travelling position being in row two of the WAV, Kevin tells us he chose Ford Freedom™ as his new wheelchair accessible vehicle as there is plenty space for him to sit comfortably and see out the window.
“It’s just wonderful!”, he remarks.
However, there is one feature that Kevin appreciates most and it’s one that comes as standard in every Allied Mobility passenger WAV:
Learn more about Freedom™“The feature I found most useful in the WAV is the electric-assist winch for winching my wheelchair in and out. The winch takes the strain of the wheelchair, so it doesn’t hurt my carer’s back.”
Nationwide WAV Delivery
As an Allied Mobility customer you will benefit from having your brand-new WAV delivered straight to your front door, anywhere in the UK*, free of charge!
Your delivery specialist will drop the car off at your home, provide a refresher demonstration of the accessibility features and if you’re a Motability Scheme customer, they will even take your old Scheme vehicle away – making the entire process seamless!
Reflecting on his most recent delivery experience, Kevin said:
“On the day of my delivery, Ricardo came from the delivery team, showed my carers the specifications of my new WAV and then took my old WAV away.”
HomeStay™ Mobile Service
Available exclusively to Allied Mobility customers, HomeStay™ Mobile Service is another key reason Kevin has remained with Allied Mobility for over a decade.
Instead of needing to travel to a garage, HomeStay™ brings servicing directly to your doorstep – making maintenance more convenient and stress-free. Reflecting on his experience, Kevin said:
Learn more about HomeStay™“I got my last WAV serviced by one of the mobile mechanics at my home address. Outstanding service, 100% because you don’t have the problem of taking your WAV to a garage. The mobile technicians come out to the customer’s home address and carry out the work that needs to be done on the WAV.”
Why Choose a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle?
Sharing why he has continued to choose a WAV over a standard car, Kevin says:
“A standard car is no good to me because I wouldn’t be able to get in and out of the vehicle. A WAV helps me to get out and about with a carer and it gives me more freedom.”
Designed specifically for wheelchair users, Allied Mobility WAVs are packed full of accessibility features that make entering and exiting the vehicle as easy and safe as possible. These features include:
- Lightweight wheelchair ramp in the rear.
- Electric-assist winch to help guide the wheelchair user in and out of the vehicle.
- Lowered floor for additional headroom and a lower ramp gradient.
- Q’Straint tie downs for a secure and stable journey.
- Three-point wheelchair passenger seat belt.
Thinking about a WAV?
If you’re thinking about making the move to a WAV, Kevin has some advice:
“Go to Allied Mobility because they are the best WAV company in the country and they cater for everybody’s individual wheelchair needs.”
