2021 Sponsorship Announcement: Kate Stanforth Academy of Dance

It is Allied Mobility’s great pleasure to announce we’re sponsoring the Kate Stanforth Academy of Dance!  We’ll be sponsoring Kate’s Friday classes until the end of the year in a bid to help disabled dancers return to dance or try it for the very first time.

Kate Stanforth

If you’ve followed Kate’s journey with us since 2018 you’ll know that she’s bright, outgoing and a fantastic campaigner and advocate for disabled rights.  You’ll also know that Kate is a trained dancer who, as a young teenager, was preparing to turn professional.

At age 14 however Kate became unwell with ME and subsequently Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Vasovagal Syncope and MCAD, and was unable to pursue her dream career of dancing.  Kate returned to the sport she loved several years later both as a dancer and to start her teaching qualifications.

“I want the dance industry to be accessible for all, whether it’s teaching, choreography or physically dancing.” Kate Stanforth.

Accessible Dancing for All

As a wheelchair user and disabled teacher, Kate told us how she struggled at times with the lack of accessibility at dance studios and the physicality needed to teach young students.  However Kate adapted the way she taught, including giving more vocal instructions and choreographing from her wheelchair.

Lockdown Breakthrough

In March 2020 Kate used her skills as a dancer and teacher to provide free weekly inclusive classes online.  By September of the same year, Kate Stanforth Dance Academy had a brand new accessible studio to welcome dancers of all abilities.

We’re truly delighted to be a very small part of Kate’s Academy and can’t wait to see the progress she and her dancers make.
