A Picture Perfect Prize for Emersyn

We were thrilled to be able to spread some joy recently with a surprise for the Jackson family – a cool £500!  Gemma Jackson, from Belfast, bagged the money by winning our Spread the Joy Facebook competition.  In December, we asked our social media followers to show us how they were sparking seasonal fun with a festive snap.  Gemma’s photo of her daughter Emersyn, with her walking frame suitably decked out for the time of year, put her in the top spot and ensured the whole family kicked off 2021 in style!

With 2020 being such a difficult year, Allied Mobility wanted to boost festive cheer and give our followers the chance to win big.  By the time the competition closed, our Facebook page was fit to burst with delightful decorations, playful pets and Santa spotting!  We can safely say our followers managed to spread the festive feeling!  When we told Gemma about her win, she certainly wasn’t expecting the news.

Gemma says: “I was so surprised and didn’t think I’d be in with a chance to win at all!  There were so many great entries!”

Lighting Up the Winter Months

Gemma’s winning picture captured the moment that her daughter, Emersyn, took her very first steps in her new and festively decorated walking frame.  Three-year-old Emersyn was born with Downs Syndrome, which has affected her mobility.  Having just received the frame that same day, Emersyn wasted no time in festooning it with fairy lights and giving her new mobility aid a whirl.  According to Gemma, she’s a natural already!  Like many other families, the Jacksons have been shielding due to the virus.  This means that Emersyn has been unable to attend her local sensory nursery, something that’s been a favourite of hers.

Mobility cars are all new to us.  But we know where we’ll come when we need one!”

Gemma explains: “We’ve not been doing much because we’ve had to shield as a family.  Emersyn has really missed going to her sensory nursery and seeing her friends but at least with this win we’ve got some things to look forward to when we can get out again!”

More Accessibility Ahead

With news of the win sinking in, Gemma has started to think about what to spend the prize money on.  First on the list is a top of the range accessible pushchair for Emersyn that will adapt to her body as she grows.  Gemma is already thinking even further ahead to the future though, with plans to come to Allied Mobility when the family may need a wheelchair accessible vehicle.  But one step at a time.

Gemma concludes: “Mobility cars are all new to us.  But we know where we’ll come when we need one!”
