Adam’s New Wheels

Adam Mazan, 12 and his family, from Market Drayton in Shropshire, are enjoying taking spins in their new disability car from specialist vehicle manufacturer, Allied Mobility.

Adam, who is a wheelchair user, has Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, a condition that affects the muscles and causes muscle weakness.  This means Adam is not able to get out and about as easy as other children and transport is often a problem.

To accommodate Adam and his needs, his mum, Valerie, decided to look into wheelchair accessible cars and enlisted the help of specialist vehicle manufacturer Allied Mobility.

Allied specialises in the manufacture and supply of wheelchair accessible vehicles, available to buy, rent or through the UK-wide Motability Scheme.  All vehicles are designed specifically for wheelchair users and feature wheelchair access ramps, wheelchair restraint systems and specialised wheelchair passenger seat belts.

Valerie comments: “We chose the Peugeot Horizon wheelchair car from Allied because it has a ramp that’s great for Adam’s wheelchair.  We got the Horizon on the Motability Scheme and it was such a low advance payment with Allied, we just had to have it.  The access for Adam is fantastic and there’s lots of space inside for his wheelchair.”

The Peugeot Horizon is available in two different models which provide ample room for wheelchair and able-bodied passengers alike.  The Horizon WAV can accommodate driver, wheelchair passenger and two seated passengers and comes complete with air conditioning, electric windows and CD player.

Making a Difference

Previously, it had been difficult for Adam to get out with his family and travel while in his wheelchair.  Now with the Peugeot Horizon, they have more freedom to get out together.

Valerie explains: “Adam has a big wheelchair so we couldn’t really go out much to places that required transport. The Horizon has really helped us as a family, it’s smashing.”

Valerie continues: “We’ve all been to Chester Zoo in our car, and it’s also helped Adam get to the Priory, in Shrewsbury, which is 20 miles away.

Adam and Valerie thought the service from Allied was “excellent” and they are looking forward to planning trips for the family in the future.
