When you call Allied Mobility to enquire about a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), you want to know you’re in good hands. To ensure you are receiving accurate, up-to-date information, our advisors are given frequent training sessions.
Senior mobility consultant, Ian, provided some hands-on training for our mobility advisors recently. Demonstrating a range of vehicles including the UK’s favourite, Peugeot Horizon™, the high-spec Ford Independence™ and the spacious Volkswagen Vista™; Ian was able to provide invaluable knowledge for all involved.
It was great to get advanced training on how each vehicle works and most importantly, how it would suit the wheelchair-user and their family.
Light-weight ramp
With the wheelchair ramp a key component of any mobility vehicle, our engineers have worked hard to design a light-weight, easy-to-use ramp. As a feature our advisors are frequently asked questions about, they were able to see exactly how the mechanism works and feel the weight for themselves.
Throughout Ian’s demonstrations, he also used various wheelchairs to show how different shapes and sizes would fit in the given space of each vehicle. Advisor Fraser commented:
“We are often asked which vehicle is best for a customer to receive their demonstration in. Usually we run through a series of questions from our guidance sheet so it’s great to be able to visualise the space the wheelchair user will have, depending on their wheelchair dimensions.”
Features
Ian also provided guidance on how to use the various safety features of each vehicle; including how to safely secure the restraints to the wheelchair, the electric winch operation and the three-point seat belt process. Mobility advisor Louise commented:
“We are asked a wide range of questions on a daily-basis. It was great to get advanced training on how each vehicle works and most importantly, how it would suit the wheelchair-user and their family.”
