Autograph Ticks All the Boxes

David and Rosemary Reynolds, from High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire, are over the moon with their new Renault Autograph mobility car.

David is visually impaired and his wife, Rosemary, has mobility problems with her legs.  The couple had struggled to find a car that was accessible for Rosemary’s wheelchair and which would also allow his wife to drive, given that her mobility problems mean she cannot use driving pedals easily.

After visiting various garages and having no success, David turned to Allied Mobility and was delighted to discover the solution to their problems in their Renault Kangoo Autographwheelchair conversion.

David explains: “We recently moved from the centre of High Wycombe out to the country so having a car is more important than ever for us.  Because of the fact that my wife needs different things from our car, I never expected our search to be easy but we were delighted when we came across Allied Mobility and found they made mobility cars that offered exactly what we were after.  I gave them a call and discussed our options over the phone.

Automatic Option

“We booked a home demonstration of the Renault Autograph as not only did it have excellent wheelchair access but it was also available as an automatic, which is what we need for Rosemary to be able to drive.  We’d never owned a wheelchair accessible vehicle before but after our local mobility consultant, Darren, came out and demonstrated the Renault Autograph we discovered it ticked all the boxes.”

Based on the popular Renault Kangoo, Allied Mobility’s Renault Autograph provides easy wheelchair access whilst also offering the choice of an automatic or manual transmission.  Not only does the Autograph have all the accessibility features you would expect of an Allied Mobility car, such as lightweight folding ramp and lowered floor, but this versatile WAV also has a specially designed wider ramp for those who have larger scooters or wheelchairs.

David continues: “The lightweight ramp has made a massive difference when we want to go anywhere.  I help Rosemary into the drivers seat and then I have no trouble taking her powered wheelchair to the back of vehicle and pushing it up the ramp, it’s so quick and easy.

Handy Controls for Driving

“For us, having an automatic car is very important but what’s great about Allied’s service is that they are also able to add extra features to make driving more accessible for Rosemary.  Darren was able to explain about the various hand controls that we could have fitted to the car as driving aids.  We chose to have a hand control for acceleration, an easy release handbrake and a steering ball.

“Thanks to these adaptations driving is now so much easier for Rosemary,” enthuses David.  “Whether we’re going to visit family or Rosemary is shopping with her friends, no journey is a problem for us now.

David continues: “The service we received was excellent.  We felt the staff at Allied really listened to what we wanted, from our initial call to our demonstration, the whole process was effortless.  Darren was lovely, he took his time and explained everything to us.  Our new mobility car was delivered in good time after we placed our order – we really couldn’t have asked for better service.”
