Chris Power, from Belfast, was pleasantly surprised to find out that Allied Mobility supply wheelchair accessible vehicles across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Allied also maintains a readily available stock of vehicles to provide free home demonstrations. For the UK’s number one wheelchair accessible vehicle manufacturer, it’s all part of the service.
Chris, who has MS, and his wife Paula decided it was time to change their Motability carwhen it became more difficult for Chris to transfer into the passenger seat of his current vehicle.
Chris explains: “For the past while it’s become more awkward for me to move from my wheelchair into the car. Not only that but my wonderful wife has been battling breast cancer so, following her treatment, it wasn’t very easy for her to lift my wheelchair into the boot of our old car. We decided that getting a wheelchair conversion car would be the best solution.
Wheelchair Conversion Features
“We gave Allied Mobility a call and spoke to our local mobility consultant, Scott. After considering various options we established that the Peugeot Horizon was the best car for us so he arranged to bring it to our home for a demonstration.
Available exclusively from Allied Mobility, the Peugeot Horizon mobility car is based on the stylish Peugeot Partner. It comes complete with a wealth of wheelchair conversion featuresincluding a unique FlatFold™ ramp, lowered floor, rear parking sensors and the option of a free winch.
Unlike other wheelchair conversions, the Partner Horizon also offers full original rear seating, making it easy to see why this mobility car is the best selling wheelchair accessible vehicle on the Motability Scheme. Horizon now also comes with a choice of transmissions – manual or automatic.
Chris continues: “As the driver, Paula loves the car. She no longer needs to lift my wheelchair into the boot and thinks the wheelchair acces ramp is amazing!
“We were also delighted that we could get an automatic Horizon – together with the steering ball and hand controlled accelerator adaptations that we had fitted to the car it all adds up to make driving a breeze for Paula.”
Chris was pleasantly surprised with the visibility he has when travelling in his wheelchair.
“Some wheelchair cars leave you sitting quite high inside the vehicle but one of the things I love the most about the Horizon is that, thanks to the cleverly lowered floor, when I’m sitting in my wheelchair I still have a fantastic view!
“We mostly use the car for socialising but I also have a voluntary job at our local day centre where I help other disabled people make the most of their lives. Owning the Horizon is helping me to stay independent and continue to do the things I did before, regardless of the fact my MS is affecting my mobility more.
“We’ve also noticed a big difference in fuel consumption as the car engine stops when the car isn’t moving, it’s great! The Horizon really has it all. Even our son and daughter think it’s fab, so much so we’re getting our son added on as a second driver.
“When we began our search for a wheelchair car we considered a couple of companies but Allied Mobility offered exactly what we needed and couldn’t be beaten on price or service. We couldn’t believe how accommodating they were – bringing the car to our doorstep for a demonstration, fitting driving aids as well as the fact that we told Scott we had a family wedding coming up and if we could have the vehicle in time for this is would be brilliant.
“Sure enough the car was delivered in time for the big day!
“From the first minute we contacted Allied to the day the car was delivered, the whole process has been grand! We couldn’t be happier with our new wheelchair accessible vehicle.”
