Campbell Explores with his new WAV

Campbell Currie, 45, from Girvan in Ayrshire, has Cerebal Palsy and is a wheelchair user who loves nothing more than taking trips outside his local town to visit new and exciting places.

Unfortunately, due to his poor mobility, getting around with his carer prevented Campbell from going out exploring.  Campbell is supported by Nicola McBride, a full time carer with South Ayrshire Council who has been with him for eight years.  Nicola was getting as frustrated as Campbell what with the lack of suitable transport available to him.

Nicola says: “We’ve been trying to get a disability car for Campbell for nearly two years but we were having difficulty as Campbell was unable to sign for a car himself.  Public transport just isn’t an option for him and his chair so we needed a solution quickly.”

Nicola found out that Allied Mobility came highly recommended for producing a wide range of wheelchair accessible vehicles at low advance payments so decided to give them a call.

Reliable

Nicola comments: ”We went to Allied as they offered the Peugeot Horizon, which is the vehicle I thought would be perfect for Campbell.  I have a Peugeot myself and they are fantastic to drive so I knew the car would be reliable.”

The Peugeot Horizon is Allied’s most popular wheelchair accessible vehicle and offers optimum accessibility with lightweight folding rear ramp and remote-operated electric winch system.  The Horizon has the lowest advance payment of any WAV on the Motability scheme, at only £395.
Nicola and Campbell are delighted with their choice: “The car is absolutely brilliant, the combination of the ramp and winch is exactly what Colin needed and both are so simple to use.”

Campbell is now able to get out and about easily in his new Horizon WAV.  Nicola explains: “Getting out is a doddle now with the new car.

“Girvan is a small seaside town, so all the things that Campbell likes doing require us to travel further afield.  He needs to go to Hydrotherapy sessions regularly in Ayr and it’s great that we can go ten pin bowling afterwards.

Ferry Trip

“Campbell really is never in the house anymore – it was his birthday last week and we had a fantastic day.  We got the ferry from Stranraer to Belfast.  Campbell loves boats and spent the day shopping and sight seeing, it was fantastic,” adds Nicola.

The Horizon disability car has allowed Campbell and Nicola to plan holidays away from home which just wasn’t possible before.

Nicola explains: “We’ve planned a trip to Blackpool in this month.  A bunch of us carers will be going along with Campbell and it’s going to be great fun.”

The pair are delighted with the service they received from Allied’s staff: “Everyone was fantastic and made the whole process of getting our car so easy. Thank you all,“ says Nicola.

The exclusive Peugeot Horizon wheelchair accessible vehicle is available to buy, rent or through Motability. The car is fully wheelchair accessible with wheelchair ramp and electric winch and includes features such as free metallic paint, free CD player and free air conditioning.
