A day out to the Mobility Roadshow was all Susan and Roy Kirby needed to find the perfect wheelchair accessible vehicle.
The couple, from Whitchurch in Shropshire, hadn’t planned on changing cars until they saw for themselves how much easier travelling is in a mobility car.
Roy comments: “We originally went to the show just to have a look around but when we saw Allied’s range and conversions we couldn’t help but be impressed. We had never considered getting a wheelchair accessible vehicle before but seeing how easy it was to put the ramp down and guide Susan into the car using the winch and then secure her scooter in the car, it seemed crazy not to consider changing cars.”
Perfect Mobility Car
“We looked at lots of different cars on the day but decided we liked Allied the best. We spoke with Allied Mobility Consultant, Karen, and decided the Peugeot Horizon was the perfect car for us. Karen gave us a demonstration of the car there and then, we were sold.
“One of the things we loved about the car was the fact that we could get a winch included at no extra cost. The winch is great, it helps Susan to feel secure going up the ramp and we have no worries of her losing control and rolling back down the ramp as it is designed to guide her powered wheelchair safely into the car, holding her the whole way.
“The fact the car was available in automatic was ideal for me as I much prefer to drive an automatic. When we took it out on test drive I found a few potholes to put it through it’s paces, I really couldn’t fault it.”
Packed with Features
Susan adds: “It was a constant struggle for me getting in and out of our old car. What makes the Horizon perfect is the fact I can remain in my powered wheelchair while we travel so I no longer have to do an awkward transfer into a passenger seat.”
Available exclusively from Allied Mobility, the Peugeot Horizon is based on the popular Peugeot Partner. It comes complete with numerous features including the clever FlatFold™ ramp, lowered floor, and full wheelchair securing system, making it easy to see why this car is the best selling wheelchair accessible vehicle on the Motability Scheme. Horizon now also comes with a choice of transmissions – manual or automatic.
Reaping the Benefits
Roy continues: “We’ve been going out so much more since getting the car. We mostly use it for shopping and leisure trips. We like to go down to the coast in Portsmouth and we’ve been to Cornwall on holiday too. Our daily lives are so much easier thanks to having such an accessible mobility car.
“The service we received was fantastic too! Karen was lovely and really helpful, as were all the staff we dealt with. We phoned to thank everyone once the car was delivered, we were delighted.”
