School’s Out

SCHOOLS OUT

Moor House School, a residential specialist school for children with severe specific speech and language disorders, recently acquired two new minibuses from Allied Vehicles, the country’s leading supplier of specially adapted minibuses.

The co-educational, non-maintained school in Surrey offers pupils a curriculum which is adapted and differentiated to meet a wide range of needs found within the school population.

“We use our new vehicles to get the children out and about on various school activities and events,” explained John Halliday, maintenance engineer at Moor House.

Outings

“We go on outings to places like the British Wildlife Park, on camping expeditions, to leisure centres and shopping malls and to the occasional local football match!” continued John.

“Our Peugeot Boxer minibus, which carries up to 16 passengers, is spacious and comfortable and the kids really love it.  We also have a Mercedes Vito MPV that we use for smaller groups,” said John.

A minibus can be as vital as a classroom in a school’s activities. Allied Vehicles have found increasing demand from schools throughout Britain for their transport needs, including accessible vehicles like the Peugeot Monarch and Mercedes Vito chosen by Moor House.

“It makes all the difference when someone who uses a wheelchair can travel with other seated passengers. Our wheelchair accessible minibuses mean that entire groups can travel together safely rather than in separate vehicles,” said Gavin Gillies, Managing Director of Allied Vehicles.

Structured Learning

Moor House school recognises that pupils aged between 7 and 16 with speech and language impairment require structured learning which builds and develops both conceptual understanding and communication and social skills. The programmes of study of the National Curriculum are taught with suitable adaptations being made as and when appropriate.

Allied Vehicles is an established vehicle adaptation specialist with a growing range of vehicles designed to increase freedom of mobility for wheelchair users.  Their main business activity is supplying new wheelchair accessible minibuses, cars and taxis to schools, minibus operators, care homes, hotels, ambulance trusts and local authorities.
