Getting away from it all can be a precious commodity. If you or a loved one has a disability, taking a much-needed break can be essential to your wellbeing. Allied Mobility is delighted to team up with Sponsor A Stay to help provide an accessible getaway for five disabled guests and their carers this September at the picturesque Calvert Kielder. Sponsor A Stay is an initiative set up by our very own guest blogger, Kate Stanforth.

The award-winning respite retreat has been running accessible holidays for people with disabilities for over 30 years. Nestled deep in Kielder Forest Park, Northumbria, the area is home not just to stunning scenery and peaceful surroundings but Europe’s largest man-made lake. Calvert Kielder’s scenic location allows you to give yourself some well needed relaxation and to recharge the batteries. The accommodation provides en-suite twin bedrooms for guests and their carers as well as being equipped with specialist facilities and staff on hand 24 hours a day for support.
Accessible Adventures
Calvert Kielder doesn’t just offer an accessible space to take a break from the stresses and strains, it’s also jam-packed with things to do to get the adrenaline pumping. There’s everything from archery to zip-wire adventures, all supported by qualified instructors who cater for all abilities. Most activities are wheelchair accessible and are designed to be exciting and challenging, empowering guests to overcome challenges in a safe space.

Sponsor A Stay
The idea for Sponsor A Stay was developed by Kate Stanforth and is a cause close to her heart. As someone who lives with multiple complex conditions, she has experienced the huge difference that respite care can make to individuals and their families.
Kate explained: “I had to fight for 10 years to get respite, during which time, my family didn’t get a break from providing my 24-hour care. When I go to Calvert Kielder, I feel alive and empowered. I know many young disabled people don’t have access to care packages or respite opportunities so I would love to make a difference for them.”
