Vista Right Choice for Thompsons

With the end of their current Motability car contract fast approaching it was time for the Thompson family, from Devon, to find their next wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Needing a car that could cater for the family of six mum, Jackie, and dad, David, set about finding the perfect mobility vehicle that would suit their busy family life and cater for their son Hamish’s wheelchair.

Right Mobility Car

Jackie explains: “We owned a larger vehicle before but the wheelchair ramp was quite heavy and awkward to use.  When it came time to renew we wanted a family car with lots of space but in a smaller vehicle…we didn’t ask for much!

“Then I came across the Volkswagen Vista mobility car.  This seemed ideal so I gave Allied Mobility a call to find out more.  When we spoke with our mobility consultant, Jon, we decided we wanted to see two different vehicles.  This wasn’t a problem and he brought both vehicles to our home to let us try them.

“After seeing the Vista our minds were made up.  It was definitely the one for us.  There was plenty of room inside and it was a good bit lower than our old car so it met with all of our demands – it was great!”

Stylish Choice

Based on the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi, the Vista is a stylish multi passenger vehicle capable of carrying driver, four seated passengers and a wheelchair passenger.  Wheelchair access is a priority in this vehicle with excellent accessibility features such as its unique, FlatFold™ ramp, lowered floor and high quality wheelchair restraint system.

Jackie comments: “Since getting our new car we’ve found using the ramp much easier as it’s lighter and smaller.  It makes going out in the vehicle more enjoyable.

“As a 15-year-old teenager Hamish is always on the go.  Whether it’s swimming, out with his friends, going to school, attending hospital appointments or taking part in fundraising activities, having a wheelchair accessible car is vital for his independence.”

Amazingly, Hamish has also raised over £10,000 for Children in Need over the past six years.

Optional Extras

Jackie concludes: “We also chose to have privacy glass fitted to our vehicle, which Allied offered free of charge.  We’re really happy with our Vista – it’s a great family car.  We definitely made the right choice.”

The Vista is available to buy or to lease on the Motablilty Scheme, with Advance Payments starting from £3,495.
