The UK’s leading manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vehicles, Allied Mobility, provides a helpful home demonstration service throughout the UK and Ireland.
Allied’s network of skilled mobility consultants each covers their own local area, ensuring that customers can check out their chosen wheelchair accessible vehicle at first hand, before deciding on the right car for them.
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles South East
Here we chat to Karen Meen, Allied’s mobility consultant for the South East of England.
“I’ve been with Allied for three years now and I love my job because of the unique people I meet every day,” enthuses Karen.
“A normal day would involve visiting several different people to demonstrate the choice of wheelchair accessible vehicles we offer. I have access to a full range of mobility cars and people carriers and none of my customers have to wait long to see the model they are interested in, which is great.
Choosing the Right Wheelchair Access Vehicle
“I love helping people find the wheelchair access vehicle which suits them best. It could be a compact wheelchair vehicle like our Peugeot Partner Presto, or a mid-sized family car like the Peugeot Partner Horizon, which is the UK’s best selling wheelchair accessible vehicle.”
“Our Renault Kangoo-based Autograph is particularly popular with customers who prefer to drive and automatic wheelchair car. For larger families or small groups we have the Volkswagen Caddy Vista and the Peugeot Expert Independence, which is available with a wide choice of seating layouts to suit customer’s needs and preferences.
“People are always surprised by how easy it is to work the ramp and restraints on our wheelchair vehicles and many are impressed that a wheelchair accessible car can still look like a stylish standard vehicle,” explains Karen.
Mobility Advice
“Most of the people I meet have phoned our advice line to begin with and then their details are passed onto me as I live near them. My role is to let them try out the car for themselves and check that all the dimensions are suitable.
“I can also offer advice on the assistance available though programmes such as Access to Work and the Motability Scheme and can help customers understand the paperwork they need to complete.”
Karen concludes: “I love meeting different people on my home demonstrations and so many of the customers who buy our wheelchair access vehicles have interesting stories to tell. Whether its an older person living alone, a couple, or a family with a young wheelchair user, its great to be able to offer improved independence.
“Wheelchair accessible vehicles help a lot of people do things they couldn’t manage otherwise and I love helping with this.”
