Life with Lunar™: Tierna and Colleen on their brand-new WAV

Not only does a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) make travel easier for wheelchair users and their companions, at Allied Mobility we will also make the process of getting a new WAV as smooth as possible.

Speaking about their experience of finding a new Motability Scheme car with Allied Mobility, we caught up with Tierna Branney’s mum, Colleen, to learn how the Northern Irish mother and daughter duo are getting on with their brand-new Citroen Berlingo Lunar™ WAV.

Choosing a WAV

Tierna has Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) and severe epilepsy so when it came to choosing Tierna’s new WAV, Colleen tells us, “I was looking for a wheelchair accessible vehicle that was more suited to Tierna so she could be close behind me just in case I need to do an emergency stop.”

After finding Allied Mobility through the Motability Scheme, Colleen explains the journey to a new WAV to fit Tierna’s needs was simple.

“It was basically a phone call to start off the process and then our mobility consultant called out with a car.”

A Light-weight EasyGlide ramp

Having had the vehicle for a few months, Colleen talks us through some of her favourite features of the vehicle.

“It’s a beautiful car, easy access in and out, but the ramp itself, it’s feather light. I’ve had cars before where the ramps were heavy to lift, this one is just a finger touch and it’s so easy.”

She continues, “The car also heats up a lot more, which is more suited towards Tierna because she’s not that good at moving, she needs to be kept warm.”

Life with Lunar™

Discussing the impact the car has had on their lives; Colleen explains that it has been hugely beneficial to the both of them.

“I’m her carer, I drive her out and I collect her every day. So, it was really important that the car was suited for Tierna, but it has had such a big impact on both of our lives.”
