Worksmart Help for Disabled Londoners

Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD) has launched an innovative employment scheme to help young disabled people across North and East London.

The Worksmart programme is aimed at people aged 16 to 25 who are not currently in employment, education or training.  Each young person taking part in the scheme will be appointed their own advisor who will design an individual action plan for them and help with writing CV’s and interview techniques.  Advisors will also help participants in the scheme find work experience and training.

Employment Support

Once an individual is in work the scheme will continue to provide support during the first year of employment.

Rob Maisey, Leonard Cheshire Disability Worksmart manager, explained: “In the current economic climate young disabled people are facing even greater challenges than their non-disabled peers.

“That’s why we are looking forward to working with eligible young people who are keen to move into employment or full time education, or want to gain new skills and make sure they are given the support they need to succeed.  We’re urging these people to get in touch as soon as possible.”

The programme will run for two and a half years and will be funded by the European Social Fund and the Mayor of London’s Youth Programme.
