Campaign to Encourage More Disabled Web Users

Liverpool disability arts organisation, DaDaFest has joined a national campaign to encourage more people with disabilities to use the internet.

It’s estimated there are currently over 4 million disabled people living in the UK who have never used the internet.  The Go On Gold campaign has been set up to address this by helping people with disabilities overcome the challenges they are faced with when using the web.

Raising Awareness

DaDaFest, which organises Liverpool’s biennial disability arts festival, has become a partner of Go On Gold and is hoping the project will help disabled people to participate fully in an increasingly digital society.

The campaign hopes to capitalise on the new awareness and understanding of equality issues generated by the success of the London Paralympics last year.

DaDaFest CEO Ruth Gold commented: “Most people are well aware of the physical challenges faced by disabled people – such as lack of wheelchair access and ramps – but the less tangible barriers, like having difficulty using keyboards or reading text, are less obvious for those not affected.”
