Creative Costumes for Wheelchairs

Parents of a young boy have launched a Kickstarter campaign to make wheelchair fancy dress costumes for wheelchairs. Lon and Anita Davis, from Kansas, found inspiration for the campaign after spending time making costumes for their son, Reese.  Reese was diagnosed with the childhood cancer, neuroblastoma, when he was just two months old.  The disease caused tumours to grow on his spine and as a result, he lost the use of his legs.

Halloween Treats

For every young child, Halloween is an exciting time of year and when Reese was three he desperately wanted to be the Disney character, Wall-E. His parents set a goal to make it happen. They worked hard to transform his wheelchair into the well-loved robot character using some creative imagination and clever crafting.  And that’s where the story began, from then on Reese and his parents worked hard together to create original and creative costumes every Halloween. Their home project highlighted a gap in the provision of costumes that are designed to work with walking aids or wheelchairs.  As a result Lon and Anita launched Walkin’ and Rollin’ – a non-profit that aims to: “provide any child with special needs equipment a unique and custom built costume for them, free of charge to the family.”

Helping Others
