Extra Funding for Home Adaptations

The Department for Health has announced an extra £40 million to help pay for home adaptations so people with disabilities can live more independently at home.

Care and Support Minister Norman Lamb announced the extra funding for Disabled Facilities Grants, enabling more people with disabilities to remain independent in their own homes.

Mr. Lamb commented: ““We know that most people want to remain independent and be supported in their own home as far as possible. This funding will help people make the necessary practical changes to help them remain in their own home and prevent or postpone the development of health and care needs.”

Coping with Disability

National housing charity Care & Repair England has welcomed the news.  Sue Adams, Chief Executive of the charity said: “We warmly welcome the acknowledgement that suitable housing can underpin independent living and determine the need for social care.

“This announcement shows that the Department for Health really understands the connection and is willing to support practical integration across housing, health and care.”
