Golfing for the Disabled

A society set up to enable disabled people to play golf is looking for more people to try the sport as the organisation holds a series of taster courses across the UK.

Golf is one of the most widely played sports in the UK.  The Disabled Golf Society (DGS) was set up for disabled people, regardless of gender, age or ability to help them enjoy the benefits the sport can bring.  The Society provides specialised golf buggies – a new kind of disabled vehicle – for participating members.

Over the next three months the Society is holding a series of taster sessions for both children and adults to give interested people the chance to try the sport for themselves.

Previous participant, Peter Hunt, commented: “All of the members who took part told me how amazed they were at the skill and enjoyment of everyone who played, and received instruction.  I’m hopeful more people will be encouraged to play more regularly as a result of the course.”

All of the golf courses used in the taster sessions have been pre-vetted to ensure they can accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.  The DGS Academy Taster Session will provide disabled buggies and equipment for participants to try out on the golf course.  Professional coaches will also be on hand to provide expert guidance to help players improve their game.
