Mobility Scooters World Record

Red Wheelies

A group of women from Kent are celebrating after breaking the world record for the longest distance travelled on personal mobility vehicles within 24 hours.

The team, named the Red Wheelies, smashed the previous record of 88 miles to set a new record of 154 miles.  Their successful attempt was undertaken at Fowlmead Country Park in Kent.

The team of ten women undertook the challenge to help raise funds for new facilities at the Kent Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.  The achievement was even more amazing considering all members of the team have MS.

As well as raising money for the therapy centre, the Red Wheelies also aim to raise awareness of MS and show that even if you are diagnosed with the condition you can still enjoy your life.

Team leader, Jackie Weeden, commented: “Our philosophy is that we might have to accept the odd limitation but we certainly aren’t going to give up.  Wheelies feel that with a positive attitude and a sense of humour, you, yourself, can achieve what might appear to be impossible.

“We the Wheelies are determined to prove MS does not mean must stop”.

The new Guinness world record adds to the already impressive list of person mobility vehicles achievements by the team, including, ‘walking’ Hadrian’s wall in 2009 and ‘walking’ from Winchester Cathedral to Canterbury Cathedral last year.
