Calvert Trust Exmoor has announced two new moving and handling courses to help carers and families who care for someone with a disability.
The Trust helps people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities to experience challenging outdoor activities, such as cycling and trotting, using special wheelchair vehicles. They currently welcome over 3,500 guests every year to their accessible, residential outdoor activity centre in Exmoor.
Disability Experience
With over 20 years experience of supporting people with disabilities, the Trust has developed the one and two day courses to provide practical tips and hands on training and includes an overview of risk assessments and current legislation.
The one day course covers topics such as the principles of handling, practical skills in mobility, transfers & hoisting, spinal awareness and static loading, the fallen person and team handling.
The two day course continues on from the one day course to cover both care and the outdoor environments, with practical moving and handling sessions culminating in an accessible climbing session to put to use the skills learned through the courses.
