New Travel Scheme for Disabled Londoners

A new travel card scheme has been launched in London to make it easier for people with disabilities to get assistance when using public transport in the city.

The travel support card has been developed by Transport for London in partnership with disability charities.  It can be used on London buses, trams, the Tube, Overground rail and the Docklands Light Railway.

Holders of the card simply need to present it to any member of transport staff who will then help in any way they can such as assisting you in planning a new journey if there are delays, showing you the way to the correct platform or bus stop and even ensuring you have time to sit down before the vehicle moves off.

Making Travel Easier

Anyone who finds travelling difficult can apply for a travel support card.  It’s hoped the card will make travel easier especially for those who have a hidden disability, such as learning and communication difficulties, and often travel on their own.

Wayne Trevor, London Underground’s Accessibility and Inclusion Manager, commented: “This new card is designed to make life easier for people who may need help but do not have a visible disability.  It’s just one element in the enormous range of initiatives that we have taken to improve accessibility on the transport network.”
