The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games have come to a close and with the biggest integrated para sports programme in Game’s history, it truly was an inspiring and thrilling time for para sport!

As the Official Accessibility Partner of Glasgow 2026, we were delighted to play a part in helping to bring Glasgow 2026’s accessibility ambitions to life by providing a fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) and delivering training sessions for the Game’s volunteer drivers.
WAV Training Sessions for Game’s Volunteers
Each training session demonstrated how to use the WAV’s rear fixed ramp, safely assist wheelchair users into the vehicle, operate the electric-assist winch, secure wheelchair tie-down systems and support safe exit from the vehicle. This ensured para athletes could move around the Games safely, comfortably and independently.
Sharing how the partnership impacted the success of the Games, Jade Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer said:
“Ensuring a high-quality athlete experience is an essential aspect of any major sporting event, and to be working alongside partners that not only support, but enhance their experience is absolutely fantastic.
Allied Mobility’s support has been central in enabling the Games to deliver a seamless transport service for athletes with accessibility requirements, meaning that they travel to and from training and competition venues with ease.”
Reflecting on the impact accessible transport has had on the Games, Rebecca Bridges, Hire Manager at Allied Mobility, said:
“Knowing our WAVs allowed para athletes to put all their energy, nerves and excitement into their event rather than worrying about the logistics of getting to the competition venue, is something the entire Allied Mobility team is very proud of.”
Accessible Routes and Mobility Aids
Alongside a fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles, we also supported the Games with funding for dedicated signage to highlight accessible routes to spectator areas, while sister company, Mobility Solutions, provided wheelchairs and mobility scooters for public use throughout the event.
Wee Pink Dotted Benches
In support of SAMH’s anti-stigma and discrimination campaign, Show Up, and to ensure athletes and spectators alike had somewhere to rest, Allied Mobility also supported the Commonwealth Foundation with funding for rest benches which were placed throughout Games venues. Each bench was painted with wee pink dots at Glasgow 2026’s head office. The charity said:
“Each Wee Pink Dot is unique. It’s imperfect. Rough around the edges. Human. Just like our mental health journeys. The Wee Pink Dot is a reminder to show up and stay visible.”
The rest benches have since been relocated across the city in local charities, businesses and parks, encouraging people to pause, rest and have a chat about their mental health.
Our Competition Winners
To give thanks to our wonderful customers and celebrate the excitement of Glasgow 2026, we gave away four pairs of tickets to the athletics and para athletics at Scotstoun Stadium. The competition gave winners the chance to experience the atmosphere of the Games first-hand, cheering on world-class athletes and para athletes as they competed on one of the event’s biggest stages.
WAVs Made for More
Being involved in Glasgow 2026 was about more than providing accessible transport, it was about helping athletes, spectators and customers experience the Games with greater confidence, freedom and independence.
As we look back at this year’s Games, we’re proud to have played a part in placing accessibility, inclusion and para sport firmly in the spotlight.
